Sign painting ladies at our evening sign class. Day #2 gothic letters

Sign painting ladies at our evening sign class. Day #2 gothic letters

I remember, back when I was a wee apprentice, my master introducing the leap from single-stroke Gothics and casuals to serifed Roman letters, by asking me to pencil draw an alphabet according to classic Trajan rules, as presented in Helm Wotzkow’s The Art of Hand Lettering.  I don’t know if that’d be an appropriate exercise for the 201 level of our brush lettering workshops, since they’re more about brush work than letter forms… Any opinions?

This isn’t exactly «Sign Shop Diary» material, but it’s inspiring me to get our storefront redecorated, finally.
